Performartive programme - Old Brewery New Dance - a unique, multifaceted programme founded in October 2004 and executed by Kulczyk Foundation ever since.
Its mission is to popularise the art of contemporary dance and to support professional development of young Polish choreographers and dancers through creating in Poznań a place for regular presentations of contemporary dance - the wonderfully democratic genre that has been rapidly developing in Poland and attracts a huge audience.
We have created this programme to introduce achievements and spread knowledge on the latest avant-garde trends in contemporary dance (conceptual choreography, performance art, body art and events on the edge of visual and performing arts), to inspire the local dance communities to experiment and concentrate on formal explorations (e.g. motor activities). Another important task is to rise general awareness of the wealth of contemporary dance scene, as well as to prepare a solid foundation for dynamic evolution of Polish choreography through dialogue and theoretical reflection, which has been absent so far.
Kulczyk Foundation has intended to turn The Old Brewery's Studio Słodownia +3 into a centre of contemporary choreography. Not a mere venue for regular shows but also, and above all, 'a creation workshop', where young Polish artists can meet their fellow foreign colleagues and experienced choreographers - a place pulsating with creative energy all year round, where original contemporary dance performances are rehearsed and produced. It is where a professional environment is created for the production and promotion of dynamic, entrancing contemporary dance shows.
The idea behind the performing arts program at Stary Browar is to facilitate the creation of the cultural heart of Poznań – a place open to the latest currents in stage performances and, at the same time, the center for discussing the condition of performance art today.
Studio Słodownia concentrates on presenting the most interesting phenomena within the vast field of performing arts – performance art, body art, avant-garde puppet theater, and most importantly, contemporary dance, which has a special place on the Foundation’s agenda.
A cycle of monthly dance performances, Stary Browar – Nowy Taniec (Old Brewery – New Dance), will reach its climax at the International Forum for New Choreography. This event is going to be the first festival in Poland to gather all the most remarkable European dance experimentalists. Apart from presenting unconventional events from within performing arts, Kulczyk Foundation is also involved in co-organization of prestigious theatrical events (the MALTA International Theater Festival as the top example). Theater Studio is also the host of DKF (Film Discussion Groups) Słodownia – a program of weekly meetings with cinema art.
